Hello Mark,

I'm afraid I'm as much use as a F*** in a colander when it comes to identification, even when I am told what something is, I can forget in minutes !

However, here are some of my Boss badges, well nearly all really, I do have a little present from Julian, it's to the Royal Fusiliers and it is beige.

Perhaps someone can identify these and then you might have some sort of an idea ??

Dave.

There were two (or three ?) articles by Mortensen in Crown Imperial 1980 and 1981. He give basic identifications - though I doubt he had anything as modern as LI or Rifles. However, the article is muddled because he doesn't distinguish between which headgear they were sported or between oval and round bosses. or whether they were officer's or OR's,

Im pretty sure ,that the Royal Green Jackets is green with a corded bugle horn.
But the LI is i presumed ribboned rather corded bugle . But ive seen it advertised on black boss rather than green. I cant seem to find an image .

I think the red boss with left facing bugle (mouth piece on the right & horn side on the left when looking at it...???) is King's Royal Rifle Corps.
cheers,
Alex

Silver bugle horn on red cord boss was worn by a number of regular and territorial battalions, the one I show is a 6th Kings Liverpools ( Liverpool Rifles ) one.

The blackened brass Crowned bugle on oval green cord boss also worn by a variety of battalions, the one shown is 5th Kings Liverpools, also worn by 6th and 8th battalions of the Kings Liverpools.

( The one shown by Dave seems to have a different Crown- guelphic ? )

Having looked again at the boss`s in Dave`s picture , the one third from the left (green oval boss ) does indeed seem to have a guelphic crown which may make it a Royal Scots , Queens Rifle Volunteer Brigade / 1stV.B. Royal Scots according to the Mortenson articles but I think it may have been worn by other units as well.
