Default Help with an officers cap badge

Hi All,

I want to make a small display for a WW2 RAF flying officer but I know nothing about RAF badges.

I saw the attached badge on the local market today which I thought was for an officers cap but then I noticed that the seller had two versions, a left and a right facing eagle.

Can anyone tell me what this badge is and what the difference is between the two.

Thanks a lot,

Michael

Thanks Mike,

I wondered if that's what they were, purely based on them being a pair, but only knew for definite of cloth ones.

He wanted £20 each which seemed a lot to me.

For a nice maker marked example with its backplate that’s not completely unreasonable. Definitely retail price however.

You can get lucky and buy them for less on eBay, believe I paid £11 or 12 plus P&P for my Firmin example so not a huge price difference.

The one you require is the one facing the opposite way to the one you show.

As you now know, that is not a cap badge, so if it is WW2 you are interested in you need not worry about it, if the seller has the other, I would go and buy it, but, again not really what you are looking for.
The gilt cap eagle and crown was made with blades, screw posts as well as copper loops, very easy to get with it's rear plate, don't pay more than a few quid for one.
