Taking maufacturers variations to a new level ?
I thought amongst some anodised badges that I bought a couple of days ago that I had acquired two identical badges to the Manchester and Salford University OTC.
How wrong I was, the makers mark on one badge goes up the slider and on the other it goes down the slider, all I need now is a collector who takes collecting manufacturers variations to the extreme. P.B.

Peter,
I take makers variations to the 'n'th degree, but alas, only with my Commonwealth Artillery collection, and not my Manchesters. I have the same with Tiptaft variations WW1. regards

Is there any other way Peter? You you need to see the full picture..... not just bits of the jigsaw

Depends on how the sliders are produced Peter.
If the are made from a coil of aluminium, you could get it marked as you have. Depends how the tooling is arranged and what order the processes are done. I remember seeing a news item on Firmins, the manufacturing process was rather antiquated. |

I'm sure that the ups were made on Mon/Weds/Fri and the downs on Tues/Thurs
Didn't someone show a brass badge a while back that had the maker stamp on the inside face of the slider? Lee |

we need to know the ratio of 'ups' to 'downs' as a matter of urgency.

Or Could it be that on the AA production the mark goes down the slider.....and on the second production a few years later, with no change to the male die, the mark goes up the slider? ........ just a question It would help Mr Stock man.... see at a glance what production he has on the shelf at the factory.

It probably all comes down to whether or not the slider fitter person is right or left handed

Looking at my AA Gaunt sequence of bones, it does not appear to be that random An "Up" & "Down" MM appears only on one back image variant...... to date. I do look for differences ..... and the earlier AA bones are uniform in their mark.

Blow the maker's variation, I used to wear that badge and have been after a nice one for ages. When I wore it, the beret had a red square imposed upon as the badge backing, but not felt - a loose weave fabric - meant to represent the King's Regiment to whom we were affiliated.
