Not a motto, but I have a solid struck Liverpool Pals badge, when I bought it, it was a yellow metal colour, the colour of gold. After being rubbed, not polished, it appeared silver. It wasn't plating that was rubbed off, just a light buffing from being carried in a pocket "changed" it's colour. Over a little time it regained it's golden glow.

No..... I have had younger eyes look at it and its a very pale yellow..... my old eyes and todays light got it wrong. But it is pale..... hence "my" mistake. Its a hard one to see when its very clean compared to other brass badges when cleaned. I will post up another pic when its had time on the board..... it should mellow and darken a bit.

Try and spot it amongst other pre 1946 old Firmins.... its not easy (below)
Top left, yellow ?

Yup.... I think thats the case here Although I gave it my usual on parade polish.... so its gleaming. Give it time and it should mellow. In contrast.... I polished up a filthy Leics Yeo serviced polished brass badge yesterday (in the same way) that i bought a few days ago.... and that was an obvious deep yellow.
