Default N.Z. expeditionary Force

I have this Cape New Zealand bad tanned badge, marked "EXPEDITIONARY FORCE"
I have trouble defining its use during the 1st World War.

Some works (D.A.Corbett) speak of a force of 360 officers and 8,067 other ranks) who left New Zealand 2 months after the declaration of war. This force would then have been incorporated with reinforcements in various NZ "divisions" ...

This badge has nothing to do with the "classic" NZ with banner "ONWARD".

What to think?
Wanted on this forum ....
Good night.
