Default Officers collar badge that I can't identify

Hello - Initially I thought the collar badge here must be a button as it is small and circular, however, I don't see why a button would be necessary in that location.

Can someone please help confirm is this a badge of some sort or is this just a regular button?

Despite holding my phone camera the correct way up it seems to periodically rotate the image and I don't think there is a way to change it on this site so apologies for that.

Thanks!

Ah - That's interesting - I should have mentioned this is from an Edinburgh photographer

I'm firm on his being Royal Scots but I'll leave it to the experts to add more.

Up close it looks more like a press stud than a badge or button ?

To me the collar badge is the star of The Order of The Thistle, the buttons having St Andrew and the Saltire on a star, with Regimental title around the circumference.

Nah, the blow-up does make it look like a press stud, it's one of those best viewed "from a bit of a distance".

Thanks both for helping out on this one - My pile of unidentified cards is getting smaller by the day.

I'm very pleased I am able to finally add a half decent portrait of this regiment to my album (albeit without the cap badge)
