Default CEF Title list.

Larry Will has sent me a list of CEF Titles as an xlsx spread sheet which I have converted into html here

Google docs ?? heard of them?

well it was a sinch to upload Larry's data into a google spread sheet - done this because there may be problems hosting MS office docs on our server.
anyway google docs is new to me but looks like it has great potential.

Google CEF Titles

So there it is on google, can it be downloaded into a MS excel doc??

you can limit who can view: everyone, only those logged into google, by invite only,....and make it so anyone can edit, or a chosen few etc.

To download it as an excel spreadsheet click file > download as > excel. (Well it worked for me.)

The spreadsheet gives the following:

Quote:
Royal Canadian Regt 5-1 Cypher "GVR"
The RCR always resisted wearing the "GvR" cyphers if "VRI" shoulder cyphers were available. The following is from the regimental history during September 1915:

Quote:
"At this time the Battalion received its horses and transport, all badges of brass were bronzed; and "R.C.R." shoulder badge was substituted for the familiar "V.R.I." - The Royal Canadian Regiment, 1883-1933; by R.C. Fetherstonaugh, 1936
So, the Regiment was wearing bronzed "R.C.R." shoulder titled before arriving in France.

Default RCR Reference

I forgot to note on the spreadsheet - - "As indexed by Babin/Cross". If there is any mis-identified badges in either reference they will also show as such in the spreadsheet. Babin's E2 and E2A are possibly an example of this. Those badges may and I emphasis "MAY" be for another era or unit. They are included in the list, in the position and with the ID that were assigned by these two authors. At some point I will add another "block" of info to do corrections to the badge (either image or reference)

Could these be incorporated into the existing CEF gallery?

Nova Scotia only had four Battalions that had shoulder titles, the 25th (two versions), 106th, 112th, and the 246th (Officers only). I do have examples of these for anyone needing photos for a thread. I have not seen many of these in period photos though so I do not know how wide spread the issue of them were.
