3rd the kings own hussars
Hi Phil
In 1921 the 3rd Hussars changed there name from 3rd Kings Own Hussars to The 3rd Kings own Hussars, I believe this to be post 1922 ors badge. 3748 Hussar |

Thanks Hussar,as i said im not on the ball with the cavalry badges, and i think you are spot on with your comments. The thing with this example is it seems to be of superior manufacture to the types i have looked at (as images i admit)The scroll is not tab fixed and there is some weight to it,also the detail to the Hanover horse is better, this one is no gelding.Do you think it was a private purchase, made for regiment? Regards.Phil.

as mentioned above The 3rd (King's Own) Hussars became the The 3rd King's Own Hussars, lost the brackets in their title, although I thought it was 1920! Badges would not have been changed over night and the change to new the smaller and re-titled (as yours) would have followed in the months/years after! As mentioned there are minor variations of design and despite being well made it is an ORs badge (slider confirms that). It would have been worn from early 1920's right up to amalgamation with the 7th Hussars in 1958. There is an anodised version which is scarcer, having only been in service for a couple of years! If of interest current value (Ebay selling price) of a bi-metal badge, that has not been brooched is £10-15, not a lot for a Cavalry badge! Best regards! Andy |

The solid backed scroll is usual for the post WW1 pattern and the horse itelf is pretty heavily stamped as well. I think I'm right in saying the same horse die (same size, etc) was used for the l/h collar and arm badge? I've seen some with Gaunt stamps but whether or not these are collars or arm is open to debate.

I would go with that Viletone,it has that bit of extra about it and would (the horse) be excellent arm badge material.Regards. Phil.

a lovely collection of badges. I am interested in one of the badges on your board bottom right with regards to the style of the hanovarian horse. The 3rd Hussars badge compared with the West Yorks badge is a much sturdier beast even though both horses are Hanovarian. I have seen the odd early West Yorks officers bronze with the sturdy mount but i have never seen the 3rd Hussars badge with the West Yorks style horse! Interesting. The badge looks very much like a standard west yorks badge minus the scroll but i would pressume that this is a collar specific to the 3rd Hussars. Cheers, Dave

West yorks badge minus the scroll ???
Hi Dave,
You are probably right about this badge being a west Yorks badge minus the scroll. This part of my collection of badges came from Walter Lambert and has yet to be sorted. I am hoping that I get round to sorting them out one day. 3748 Hussar |

3rd Hussars
Hi All,
I’ve had this in my collection for a while is it 3rd hussars? I can’t seem to find any reference. It’s made of hallmarked silver, which has been broached. Thank you in advance 3748 Hussar |

3rd Kings Own Hussars all brass economy issue
Further to Alan's comment that he'd never seen a genuine version of this badge - I'd appreciate your thoughts on this one. I've had it for over 20 years and was always very happy with it. The patina, the feel, the weight, the way it's made - I bought it from a very respected dealer at one of the Yate fairs.

The 3rd Hussars badge was not authorised for production in all brass. As such it should indeed be regarded as a fake. The fact it was a tagged scroll badge without any overlaid pieces is a give-a-away.
