Queens's Own Worcestershire Hussars
Hi All,
Here are my badges of The Queen's Own Worcestershire Hussars. The first is brooched, no sign of any lugs or slider. My question concerns the GM version without a crown, no sign that a crown was ever attached but is possible. Your comments welcome. Thanks, Tinto |

Q.O. Worcestershire Hussars
Hello Tinto, strangely enough I have had a Q.O. Worcestershire Hussars all brass cap badge since I was at school fifty years ago, I got it from a friend who had a pocketful of badges which were mainly German. He gave it to me and I put it in my growing collection.
Some years later on examination, I noticed it looked as though the crown had broken off as there were jagged marks on top of the pear blossom. I mentioned it in a conversation with another very well known collector who said "Get it repaired", which I did. Does your badge have any signs of roughness or damage on top of the pear blossom? I had to use a magnifying glass to see my marks, so they were not all that apparent. By the way, my crown that was soldered on does not match the colour of the rest of the badge, and I have never been 100% happy with the result. |

Hi Tinto,
Having blown your photo's up, I would tentatively say that the angle of the leaf tops makes me think a crown would be part of that badge ?? also, I have never seen a W.H.'s without a crown but as usual, I could be wrong !! Dave. PS, This is mine !! DC. Last edited by davec2; 02-05-10 at 10:26 AM. |

Tinto,
I think your badge is broken and a visit to someone like Davec2 could have it almost back to "As Good as New".. It is quite common to find them absent their crowns. Mine shown below has also been repaired (not by Dave, I acquired it like it is). The badge with the smaller crown and narrower sides to the laurel sprays, is, I think a post WW2 pattern, mine shown below has a "Good" Small Gaunt London (No dot) mark to endorse it's authenticity. I also have an all GM version, it's a cracking badge, although the slider does not endear me that much!! The Imperial Yeo pattern was an all GM badge and both K&K and Wilkinson give reference to a GM QOWH. I suspect that the all GM could well be an early pattern following on from dropping the Imp title? With the Bim badge following on from that? Last edited by 2747andy; 02-05-10 at 10:37 AM. |

While talking about Worcestershire Cavalry, I'm showing a badge that Wilf found and graciously sent me last year, it's to the Worcestershire Imperial Yeomanry, thanks again Wilf, it is only about 36mm in height so I'm assuming it's a collar badge ??
Another point, on refection, is the fact that this is very discoloured with age ?? something like the Boer War badges shown by both Wilf and magpie, do I try to clean it or leave well alone ?? Dave. Last edited by davec2; 02-05-10 at 10:47 AM. |

The crownless badge is broken. There was never a WY badge worn with a detached crown.
All badges with Pear Blossom are post 1901. The Pear blossom was worn in remembrance of the sprig of pear blossom in silk which was presented to the troops on their departure to the Boer War by the Countess of Dudley. All badges with Imperial in title pre 1907. |

WORCESTERSHIRE OR NOT
Hi gents, came across this thread and read it with interest. I came across also a QOWH, just wanted to see what you thought. The back looks different to the above examples, hope it's a variant.
Thanks |
