Default Difference Between the ATS and the MTC

I have just started watching season 1 of Foyle's War, as I very much enjoy good English drama TV (of course anything is better than the c##p they air over here). I knew of his driver being army, but had always thought she was ATS, the story taking place in May 1940, but she's not she's MTC.

Now I am trying to understand the difference between the ATS and he MTC? Wondering if I am going to need to add MTC insignia to my ATS collection???

Tried searching here and found some interesting stuff, but no answer to this question. Also Googled it but was unable to find an answer.

Thanks,

Terry

Maybe not

"Despite the appearance of the character Samantha Stewart in the television series Foyle's War there is no evidence that any MTC member was ever seconded to a police force."

Thanks Mike. I am more interested to know if the MTC was related to the ATS in any way? I collect ATS and am wanting to know if I need to expand to include MTC (Motorized Transport Corps). My reason for referencing the character in the series is that I was expecting her to be ATS, not MTC - thus creating my question.

Thanks again,

Terry

Thanks 3dg! Looks like you are right in that they were a separate volunteer organization serving as drivers. In any event i feel like I am just going to have to add that cap badge to my collection as well!!!!

Need one if anybody has a spare.

Terry

Nothing at all to do with the ATS. The MTC was a body of uniformed civilian volunteers who drove for a wide range of government bodies.

The badge you show is a MTCAM ( Mechanised Transport Corps Auxiliary Member ) cap badge, these were worn by young girls who were not old enough to join the MTC proper, but learned vehicle maintenance etc in their spare time.

Gentlemen, This is all truly excellent and of course now sends me on the hunt for three new badges! But that's what the hobby is all about - right!

Thank you,

Terry

I sometimes think that badge collecting is like drinking alcohol, you can enjoy it if you do it sensibly, but you have to know when you have had (got) enough.

Best wishes,

Simon
