Corona virus and badge collecting
With far too much time on my hands I've been thinking of what the impact of the "virus" is likely to be on our hobby - I don't mean to trivialise the issues but I think it's interesting (like I said way too much time on my hands!). Firstly its probably fair to say that most of the collectors and dealers are in the "at risk group" and that will impact on the way the market operates in the coming months. I assume that all militaria fairs will be cancelled for the foreseeable future? Most dealers have an online web presence and presumably will be updating their lists more regularly - but at some point the stocks will dry up or at least become more erratic. And what will be the appetite from collectors to spend on their hobby when their incomes/pensions may be tanking ? I'm sure that this is all going to be a temporary situation and normality will hopefully return before the year is out.
With no sport and the pubs closed I decided to talk to the wife - she seems nice. She said "what am I going to with all your badges if you die?" I explained that Bosley's have a "widows service" - but it did occur to me that maybe the forum could do something similar ? Not sure how it would work - but I know people have mixed views on some auction houses anyway just a thought. |
