Ducal crowned, Order of the Garter, collar and belt badge
Submitted for your consideration is a highly detailed cast, gliding metal badge. It measures 84 mm (3 1/4 inches) high X 48 mm (1 7/8 inches) wide. It is quite robust in construction.
The reverse has what appears to have been a bar or a slider? 12 mm (1/2 inch) wide (now absent) below the coronet at the join of the collar and garter. I am not seeing other places that may have had an attachment. Any information on the identification, date and use (i.e cap insignia, equipment, martingale, etc badge) would be appreciated. Thank you. with kindest regards to all, Tim |

Looks like a Martingale to me. Unsure who it’s too but it’s not British military IMO.

Martingale
We have what looks like St. George and the Dragon at the bottom of this item, could it be an item of the 9th Btn the London Regt?

Hi Tim,
The garter with St George & the Dragon may relate to The Northumberland Fusiliers? Mark |

It is a livery crest belonging to a member of the The Most Noble Order of the Garter.
The crown belongs to a child of a Sovereign or a child of Heir Apparent https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_(heraldry) |

This makes very good sense and is an excellent lead. The link to the various Crowns is particularly appreciated. I wonder if the central device (lion over coronet) may give us any more precision as to which particular Child - or if we are at the end of the chase? Fingers crossed! all the best, Tim |

Please pardon my tardy reply. This is very helpful, thank you. I believe that if may be connected to: Frederick Augustus, Duke of York and Albany (1763 - 1827) or an heir or successor. with kindest regards, Tim |
