Same Rob, I put in some very good bids and got creamed on everything. If you take the prices as a realistic indication of where our hobby is going it just tripled the value of my collection. Dennis

Agreed.
Prices of the lots were over my max., then, as said, 22% on top of that.

And, very spirited bidding from multiple bidders, on the floor and online.

I wonder how many of these badges end up in the Australian War Memorial collection

Not many I’d say.
I know 2 private collectors who spent a house deposit.
I managed to get a few items. Nothing I really wanted. Just what I needed and could afford.

No luck either. I obviously live in a different universe to that of the successful bidders!

I was lucky, hardly any competition for my purchase. It was a 3rd ALH collar badge that I have never seen before and wondered if it actually existed. In 1903 they dropped the number 1 from their previous 1st Australian Horse badges when they were re-numbered to 3rd. I had assumed that they continued to wear the former very small no 1 collar badges.

Some incredibly beautiful and scarce badges amongst that lot, with equally incredible prices for some. The enamelled badges were the standout, especially the 46th Brighton Rifles Officers hat badge at a mere 9k plus 22%, one of the most beautiful badges ever made in my opinion.
Do you think we will ever see these prices again? Has it set a benchmark?

The 37th Battalion (Henty Regiment) hat badge (worn 1930s) also went for a new record - $9000 plus 22%.
