I'm think it's more likely an attempt at trench art.

Cool Kangaroo metal shoulder title

Mick, thanks for the reply, it could well be a piece of trench art produced by the "30/- a day tourists" I have had it for a good number of years which of course means nothing, but as I do not see them appearing on online selling sites, I am curious to know if any other members have similar titles.

Regards Rob

I have two original hand cut Boer War varieties of the badge, one slightly larger than the other. I might have a scan somewhere and will have a look. The trouble with your badge is that it appears to be a casting from a WW1 or later AUSTRALIA title, certainly not hand cut.

agree with both
its cast so more like a piece of trench art or novelty item
there are similar designs but all are hand cut brass
i would keep it as a novelty item

Default Kangaroo metal shoulder title

Thanks chaps for your replies, so definitely not an issued item, I cannot remember where I bought it from, possibly in a small collection, I will keep it as an oddity.

There was a discussion previously here: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40029"]https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40029"]https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40029

which shows my badge which is virtually the same badge, but with minor differences

Dan

Cool Kangaroo metal shoulder title

Thanks Dan for pointing this thread out, so maybe not an attempt at Great War trench art, but possibly earlier.

I will certainly keep it on my Australian board until I see herds of them online for sale . . !
