Default A short tale of cap badge acquisition

Gents, allow me to relay a short tale of how I came into possession of the attached small group of rather interesting WW1 period badges.

Around 2010 my girlfriend at the time - we'll call her Claire - was a professional hockey player from Bristol. Now it was never going to last as I was massively punching above my weight, but I rode the wave of success with the delightful 'Claire' long enough to be given the attached by a very elderly Aunt of hers.
They had been collected by this ladys much older sister, as a girl during the First War.

They are - if the lady was to be believed - a small time capsule, that had literally not seen the light of day for many, many years.

For your interest and comments guys. The small artillery ball button interestingly has a Victorias crown. I know very little about Canadian badges and there also appears to be a small American button.

Regards all

Bess

Pro hockey player. Did she still have her own front teeth?

I'd be very wary of a lady whose profession involves balls and swinging a big wooden club, but the risk paid off.

I would describe her as 'sturdy' and unbelievably did have her teeth. However going out for dinner Saturday night ( and to be fair she always looked amazing) when she was sporting a post match black eye . . .called for some evil looks from other diners! Awkward . . .

A friend of mine played Army Women's rugby. She went to a civvie gym and was given a Domestic abuse helpline card by a well meaning woman in the changing rooms who was concerned about the visible bruising all over her face and torso!

I like the badges and buttons, check the maker of the RA buttons.

Marc, this is the rear of the Victoria crown ball button. The the Tudor crown button has no maker mark on the rear at all.
