Postage from Australia
I was looking at a cloth badge and it was quoted as £14.00 to post to the UK from Australia.
Now I know that postal charges have gone up, but this I felt excessive or am I totally out of touch? Rob |

I believe that’s right for a tracked item, costs $25 AUD if I’m not mistaken which is £13.85.

A patch can be posted to UK generally for around AUD $4-5 via normal untracked airmail.
To register it (only way to track it) it then jumps up to around AUD $16-18. Mick

It has recently got a lot more complicated with the new options on what constitutes a letter or parcel, and is more expensive compared to previous tariff options. To build on Luke & Mick's comments:
Tracking (as a parcel) starts at $25. Registered letter starts from $17.70 but is supposed to only be used for documents! Standard airmail letter is from $3.20 depending on weight but has no tracking, though you can pay extra to insure. Then with the revised rules at the other end there's the possibility of HMRC applying VAT on arrival, depending on value. Whether any of these is good value I will leave to individuals. From my perspective, unless you're sending cloth items or a bulk lot it is hard going to do it in a cost effective way! Last edited by Expat Yeoman; 27-02-21 at 11:04 PM. |

Post to Oz
Thanks chaps for your thoughts and ideas, back in the late sixties I used to post badges to one L/Cpl L. Stillman who used to post badges back to me.
Postage was very little then and I guess as a registered Dinosaur I am out of touch, anything to add to the cost of living . . ! Ho hum . . ! Regards Rob |

I've gotten several packets from Australia recently, and understand that the price increase is due to the fact that there are less flights due to the virus - they are using cost as a way to reduce the volume of packages. However, experience tells me that once the virus issue is no longer an issue the cost will not go down!

Postage from NZ to UK has also increased quite dramatically.
It is now at least the equivalent of 10GBP for a single cap badge. Chris |

In cases such as these, which I tend to find amusing, I always say to myself, what is the alternative and how much will that cost?
