The lugged one is the very first of the a/a trial badges and is from the same stable as the RAOC ones. They were dis struck as that was the norm for the metal badges. The one piece stamping construction necessitated lugs which were inherently weak. It was not until they sorted the adhesive for attaching sliders that the badges became viable. It's a very desirable a/a badge.

Thank you,

I notice the thread starter looks quite a bit like the gaunt with no nipples but with an ugly face

I was not implying it was anything other than genuine and rare, in case that was misunderstood, but made a good comparison of die details and mirror reverse as on the copies.

Yes it's ironic that the fakes returned to the die struck manufacture of the rejected trial badges.

The trial buttons came from a company called Alumilite & Alzak who supplied the RAOC with 18 large and 28 small buttons October 1946.

The description stated by the seller on eBay stated the badge to be anodised silver aluminium. In reality, and when received, it turned out to be chromium plated!!! The badge is on its way back to the seller. Disappointing because I contacted the seller for confirmation and then he sent a completely different badge. His excuse was that he was guided by the auction's description when he obtained the badge. Lesson learned - watch out for the cowboys!!!
