The Australian General Service Badge - worn twice...
20211031_135027~2.jpg
...picked up this postcard at the Aldershot Militaria Fair...I had heard of, but have never been shown (and don't we all know that type of collector), one other evidence of two hat badges bring worn...this bloke is wearing his slouch hat in the fashion of the Third Division, yet clearly retains another badge on the turn-up...(8{ |

...one of my slouch hats is the reverse of yours - a lugged General Service badge attached on the front of the woollen pugaree but there has never been one on the side brim...(8{ |

...yep...it has a raw and stitched edge, with small wire hooks inside to take the chinstrap...notice that the hat is being worn with the press-stud fastening on the right hand side! - this owner had no intention of ever wearing his hat with the brim turned up, nor does the brim sit comfortably with the stud attached so it seems to have mostly been worn throughout its service life in the down position...(8{ |

That had is in lovely condition, does it still retain the sweatband?
The brim looks to be rather small and out of proportion, which is likely why the brim doesn't sit well when folded up. It looks more like a kiwi hat with that smaller brim, but obviously isn't. Dan |

The Australian General Service Badge - worn twice...
SlouchHat06.jpg
SlouchHat07.jpg SlouchHat08.jpg SlouchHat09.jpg ...yes, a fair portion of the sweatband survives inside the british-made one...also attached to this post is my LH example - am not comfortable with the theory I read stating that Australian-made hats, fur felt, had three vent holes per side - all of my examples only have the two, though I have seen such within others' collections...(8{ |
