Default WANTED: SOME HELMET PLATE CENTRES (HPCs)

I am ever-hopeful that someone may have one or more of the HPCs I am still looking for to add to my collection. Please drop me a line if you do have something and are willing to part with it/them. Using the K&K Numbers, the ones I am after are:

Lothian (290)
Royal Scots (291)
Kings Own Borderers (311)
KOSB (312) - lion NOT crowned (78mm in height)
KOSB (314) - smaller (77mm in height)
Connaught Rangers Small Harp (351)
Royal Irish – small harp (377)
Royal Irish – larger harp (378)
KOSB (382)
KOSB (383)
The Hertfordshire Regiment (No K&K #)
The Royal Warwickshire Regiment (ROYAL WARWICKSHIRE Circle) (No K&K #)
The Devonshire Regiment (Different Brick Design) (No K&K #).

Thanks in advance,

Lovat

Question The Hertfordshire Regiment

Did the Hertfordshire Regiment ever wear a helmet plate centre, I have never seen any reference to it being worn.

Hi Rob,

To be honest, I'm only going by another post I saw on here many moons ago that referred to such a HPC, hence the reason it is on my list. I certainly haven't seen one, and it would appear neither did Hugh King or else it would have either been mentioned or illustrated in K&K Vol 1. Ever hopeful, perhaps there is a 'Hertfordshire' expert out there who could put this question to bed, which will then allow me to either retain it on my list or strike it off??

Cool The Hertfordshire Regiment

Lovat, I do have a few Hertfordshire items, but the experts on Hertfordshire badges were at Stoneleigh fair today, so maybe they will have an answer.
Hugh King certainly did not get everything right and I have yet to meet someone who did, however when he put together with Arthur Kipling K&K I & II there was not so much information available, but a mighty stride for collectors.

Short answer, yes they did. I have one in my collection and I believe that orasot has one in his collection also. However, they are incredibly scarce and thus command a high price. Once I am able, I will see if I can get a picture of mine.

Hello Lovat, as Nozzer has said indeed the Hertfordshire Regt wore one & if you are able take a look at Orasot's great Hertfordshire Regt in the album section he has one in there .

Default Herts helmet plate centre

Wilf, thanks for the link, is your helmet plate a one piece or does it have a separate centre?

Rob,

The Hertfordshire Regiment had a separate centre. I have never seen it manufactured in one piece. However, as it is quite a rare item I am ready to be proved wrong. As I said, when I am able, I will get a picture of mine front and back. Then we can decide if it is a fake or not.

All the best,

Andrew

Default Herts helmet plate centre

Andrew, in no way am I even thinking of it being fake, it's just the fact that I have never seen one apart from the one in Wilf's album.

Some helmet plates were made as one piece as my Norfolk which I rescued in relic condition on the right of my board as opposed to the helmet plate on the left side which is two piece.

Morning Rob,

When you say your plate was made as one piece (I am assuming Britannia was separate of course being a different metal to the rest of the centre), is that struck in one piece or the centre attached later during manufactue? I have a similar plate to yours where the centre is attached to the back plate and there are no holes to accommodate lugs/hoops. The centre is definitely manufactured separately though.

I will get some pics when the light is a bit better.

Andrew

Henk,
It is in orasot's private album. You need to become a "friend" to see it.

Better add then "only for my friends" in the post, so no mere "normal" members will get punched on the nose when trying?

A couple of pictures as promised.

The lugs on the Hertfordshire centre look to have been repaired, something that I had forgotten about. That being said, I am positive that it is genuine.

Shown also is The Norfolk Regiment plate that I referred to showing the construction. Is yours the same Rob?
