Default London Rifle Bde cadet

Hi All,

Does anyone know very precisely what this cap badge is? I can't photograph the back at the moment but it has a slider.

It is in my collection so you're very welcome to let me have your views on whether it's original!

The badge itself is based on the 5th City of London Bn (London Rifle Bde) London Regt and is similar to KK1820 except it doesn't have the South Africa battle honours and has an additional disc at the bottom under the Arms of the City inscribed CADETS.

I'd be interested to know when this badge might have been worn - and by whom. I don't know too much about cadets and so I don't know if we're talking OTC, CCF, a particular school or a local group...

Pointers gratefully received.

Best wishes,

Tom

Another Martin Marsh catalogue repro. In the case of the LRB Cadets a true restrike from the original die.

Genuine badges have voids either side of the crown and between the Cadets scroll and the shield. The real ones are of an almost die cast construction, evident from the reverse, and on loops.

Hi Tom
Weirdly I was just looking at my London badges when I saw yours and Luke's posts. This one has a reverse that would scare Freddy Kruger, but I hope it's correct as I haven't got the heart to get shot of it for a better one.

The voiding is correct and as you say the lead solder is a bad replacement job on the lugs.

The front would have been blackened.

Your badge is from a different die Mark. Not seen one like it before but as Alan says I would not doubt it. Shame about the replaced loops.

It was probably worn 1908 onwards, the time the 5th London Rifle Brigade wore their whitemetal one. Prior to that, as rifle vols they both wore the LRB/LRBCC ‘shoulder title’ like badges.
