Default Manchester Pals badge

Hello,

I think I have read every thread about Manchester Pals cap badge and seen most of member's Pals Albums ! a lot of amazing collections
So I can say that most of my knowledge comes from the forum.

But I still wonder what are exactly the main characteristics of a genuine OR's Manchester Pals cap badge?

If I'm right :
- It should have nice details (front and back) like most of the good badges (no die cast, only die struck)
- 2 lugs and never a slider
- both lugs are on the edges
- made from bronzed brass or brass (a WW1 picture showed that both were worn at the same time)

and, I'm not sure, but according to the badges I've seen, the "E" from the Manchester scroll, should have its bottom bar longer than the top one?

I hope it's possible to gather "rules" that make a genuine badge, like for the Leeds or Cardiff Pals badges.

Thank you for your help

You are right, however I am not convinced about your longer 'E' theory, maybe an illusion?

If you need to show us an example I will tell you if its genuine or not.

There are some good fakes out there at the moment.

regards

Thank you very much.
About the "E", it was only my own guess, I've never read anything about that here or anywhere, so probably an illusion.
I thought first it was possible because sometimes badges are defined as fake according to the font style.

I don't have any badge to show at the moment, but thank you, I will post pictures when I will be about to purchase one

Potentially a rather expensive purchase these days, but, you can be lucky on occasion.

Yes you're right, they are quite rare and if I'm lucky enough to find one of these I don't expect to pay a low price.
Pals cap badge are never cheap when they are genuine...

Like everything in WW1 Military Collection for several years

Here you go.

The sheen on the back is remnants of WD40 as there was originally heavy verdigris on the lion’s tail and behind it.
