A very nice badge indeed. The brass and enamel version turns up occasionally but not seen it in silver.

When you mention it possibly being a generic badge before ones for individual units became available, were you referring to the, usually, blue enamel oval badges with a crown in the centre inscribed National Reserve with name of county?

I'm only wondering as I think the NVR was a seperate organisation. As I understand it the Veteran\National Reserve was founded, with War Office backing, pre-war c1910 as 'primarily a register of trained men' who could be used for defence. Whereas the NVR was a civilian organisation formed at the beginning of WW1 ass part of the volunteer movement that morphed into the Volunteer Training Corps.

The NVR had a distinctive khaki uniform with green facings. The shoulder title worn by the OR was 'N Volunteer R' which I've only seen worn by members in Norfolk suggesting the N could be either National or Norfolk (there's a post showing the badge somewhere I seem to remember). I'd be interested in any thoughts or information.

But anyway, thanks for sharing it.

In the process of putting together a booklet on the Liverpool VTC’s and their successors, I must admit having brought together material from a number of different sources, it is difficult to understand how the NVR fitted in.

The NR and the VR I can find a number of references to and I have some reasonably comprehensive notes on Liverpool VTC’s but nothing so far on the NVR.
