Essex Regiment
I wonder whether anyone would be able to help me identify these two Essex items?
I’m not sure whether I plan on keeping or selling them (on the basis the OR cap badge isn’t a fake, of course). The badge on the left looks to be like an ungraded sporting medal but it has no loop attached. It’s maker marked Phillip’s Aldershot and, as this is my home town, it’s likely to stay in my collection. I’m presuming that it’s made of gilding metal? I can’t work out whether the OR’s badge is a fake or not. The construction is different to other Essex badges I’ve seen and it looks as though the lugs have been badly replaced with what look like electrical connectors. I’m also unsure as to what is happening at the bottom of the scroll; it looks as though another part may have been connected to the badge.

The cap badge is a TF badge missing it's "SOUTH AFRICA 1900-02" scroll at the bottom, hence the two fixing tabs. Worn by the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Battalions, TF 1908 to c1916. It's been well polished and obviously had a hard life.

Looks very Lambourne to me!
Their usual quality and battered. It would have never had a scroll being wartime vintage. |

Luke, I think it's a pre-war lugged badge that's clearly been re-lugged and has lost it's lower scroll.

The small scar below the turret will be where the original slider was. My example is not particularly well brazed on either. |

Hello Andy
The badge is a very poor repo, or at one time a sweetheart badge. Brass value only. Regards Terry |

It looks real enough to me. A genuine badge that's had a hard life.

No it isn’t it’s a genuine WW1 Lambourne made cap badge that is broken and has clearly been in the wars… literally.

Greetings.
Definitely a been there, seen it, done it Lambourne made badge. They produced badges for Regular units and blank tablet badges for Territorial Battalions, but, (as far as my research has thus far proved) did not produce SA Scroll Territorial badges. Regards Brian |

I have two Lambourne badges and they are a much better quality looking than the badge on offer. We know Lambourne were an inferior manufacturer of badges but when something like this badge comes along, which I believe is crud, we should not just say that it's a Lambourne. It's a fake badge, yes the slider has been removed BUT it's a repo. It's one of the worst stamping I have seen on an Essex badge. Sorry but that's my two cents worth. I respect all the comments made.
