Hello all,
There have been some recent auctions that featured RSR beret badges, which have prompted me to give some thought to an RSR badge variant I've had for several years. I was lucky to obtain for my collection a well worn but typical RSR badge from a Forum member, so I set aside a variant I'd obtained previously, due to its differences from the more typical badge. The variant always intrigued me, though, because it's well made. In particular, it seems to me the variant is constructed on a distinctive woven base fabric that I've seen in other original badges made in Egypt and Italy, including a PPA shoulder loop in my collection and some of the recently auctioned RSR badges. Could the Forum members take a look at the attached photos of the RSR variant badge and give me your impressions? I trust the collective knowledge of the Forum, and I'd like to know either way whether this one has some merit. Thanks in advance, Donovan

..i do not like the construction to rear, black mesh material seems wrong, front looks to contrived,it would not be one for my collection.

The variant has motto embroidered on a ribbon, the ribbon sewn to the main badge backing, if I recall properly and my eyes do not let me down.
Not one I would have in my collection I think an example appears in 'Allied Special Forces Insignia 1939-48' by Peter Taylor - but I do not like it in all honesty. |

I would agree with both comments above, unless I am seriously mistaken.
As fellow member Luke stated recently: I have things in my fridge that are older than that. |

Thanks Steve, Mike and Luc, good feedback and much appreciated. Its similarity to the one in Taylor’s book was not a good sign. Back into the bottom drawer it goes!
Stay well, Donovan
