RND Nelson
Not being familiar with this badge, I believe this to be bad as well. Lugs should be north/south? A very deep domed strike however.

Based upon the photographs I certainly share your opinion.

Well, after further research here on the forum, I can confirm this is a phony.

CB,
I have a Nelson Battalion badge that looks very much like yours, with E-W lugs, that is genuine. It was given to me in the early 1970s by an aunt along with a named Nelson Battalion 1914 Star; these belonged to her step-father and had been in her possession since his death in the 1950s. My father knew of their existence from years before, when his step-father was alive, but had no interest in them at the time. My aunt was unable to find his other medals sadly, along with some other items of his that she thought might be of interest to me. So, when I got the badge, my father had been aware of its existence for decades before (hence asking his sister for it on my behalf), well before the repros and restrikes became available. So, I wouldn't despair too soon. George Last edited by conservator; 03-05-21 at 03:01 AM. |
