I love your second badge too, the contrast of the green and gilt is excellent. Not a badge I'm familiar with, could you elaborate a little David on what it is?

All the best, Roy.

Roy,
Its (obviously Canadian...), an officers pre-1910 24th Greys Horse cap badge.
Details courtesy of Mazeus pre-1914 Militia badges (MC37). As the book is only in black and white, it just doesn't convey what they look like in real life. But there you go. A nice surprise in the flesh...
I have never seen the post 1910 version.
All the best, David

Hi Phil,

What a great story, thanks for sharing that. Lovely to have something from you dad, that's grand. Didn't even see a photo of mine until I was in my forties

I understand your draw to these badges. Having grown up on a Shropshire farm I'm always a little more intrigued by badges that have a natural element.

Forestry badges would be an interesting area of study.

Appreciate that Phil, all the best, Roy.

Thanks for sharing that.

A nice badge and interesting too. Can't say I have ever seen one of those before. It's always interesting what badges catch our eye! Certainly keeps life interesting

Great photos too, nicely done.

Cheers, Roy.

The ornamental part of the 'Canadian' badge is very similar to this design (a trident)
Actually, I think it is too coincidental. Are you sure your badge is Canadian?

You could be right, its probably part of the Neptune Regiment. I don't have that book, but I have added a picture from the Mazeas book.
I must remember to include reference pictures in future - although this entry in the Mazeas must obviously be an error. I would write to the author if I could........

Its hard for me to know what to say about this non-Canadian comment.
