Default Lot of 7 Canadian WW1 - WW2 Caps bought- help needed!

Hi all,

On my trip I took a chance and picked up 7 Canadian hats, I was wondering if I could have a hand with dating a few of them and getting an idea of rarity- I paid a lower price for all of them except for the YMCA cap.

1. Royal Canadian Medical Corps hat circa WW2, high ranking ?
2. Royal Canadian Medical Corps hat circa WW1 or pre war
3.48th highlanders hat, Korea
4. WW2 Canadian YMCA cap 1944, rare?
5.Unmarked Highlanders cap, two holes visible where badge once was
6.University of British Columbia cap, 1945 dated
7.WW2 Cape Breton Highlanders cap w/badge and tassell

How rare is the YMCA hat? I have never seen the badge anywhere else

Thanks!

Not sure what comments you are looking for. Caps are nice and badges unexceptional except for the wire YMCA badge which is a first for me. However, there is little interest in the Auxiliary Services amongst collectors - which is too bad.

Hi Clive,

I was trying to ask about the YMCA one and if anyone had seen it before, I didn't even know they existed. As for the badgeless one, is that Canadian highlanders or just a regular cap?

Thanks for you comments!

The unbadged Glengarry has a leather binding and may be WWI. it is missing its tails though. Not worth very much in my opinion. Again, the YMCA badge is the keeper.

I think the reinforcement is a protractor.

It is a protractor! I was wondering if some member at the University of British Columbia lost his pin and used that, or if it was some sort of good luck/joke thing that would be found on other hats.

What was at hand was used to customize. I have found all kinds of material used as backing plates, from "custom" made brass plates, to cardboard, to all kinds of plastic. I wouldn't read anything into it.

I think thats what I'll do- Keep the YMCA one and flog the rest. I had the chance to buy several other hats but some were very expensive

Out of curiousity, the WW2 medical officers hat has a gold trip around the peak- what does this signify? I have seen this on many high ranking RCMP caps, as well as a "egg shell" pattern.

Thanks again!

The gold "strip" around the peak are for,if not mistaken, for major, lt.col. and colonel.
