Default WHICH VERSION CAP BADGES TO COLLECT

I'm interested in collecting Scottish Regimental cap badges, plus British Foot Guards ones, and notice there are quite a few variations of each badge on Ebay. Does anyone know where the original pattern drawings can be seen ie can I visit some museum or other to see what the originals looked like? Thanks.

Welcome, try the guards Museum. Ask for Gary Gibbs.

Welcome, these two books might be helpful:
Scottish Regimental Badges, 1793-1971 by Bloomer, W. H. & Bloomer, K. D. and Badges of the Highland & Lowland Regiments (including Volunteer & Territorial Battalions) Bloomer, William & Kathleen

Another tip - Dont buy them of ebay if you dont know anything about badges as 90% are fakes!!!

There are very reputable people on there, I am one, but too many to try and list and we are in a very small minority.

Buy from dealers websites.

Lots of threads on here as to who you can trust.

regards

Exclamation

Are you sure that 90% of military badges sold on E-bay are fake.
Sounds a bit excessive to me.
Just saying.....
You may wish to review that statement.

I think Simon is not right on his 90% fake statement, for special forces items its likely higher than 90%!

Hello June 130,
If you already have access to both of Bloomer's excellent books, this information may be redundant. Unfortunately don't have the critical reverse side images, but at least they are all in color. Hope these blog pages may provide some additional information;

eBay is a minefield of fakery and dishonest sellers. Add lack of knowledge and the resultant misdescription of items and the good old "I'll call it WWI, WWII period, whatever, it's not important, I don't care if it was really worn only a few years ago as long as I make a buck" attitude and it's a very risky place.
I buy lots of militaria on evilbay, really, lots of it.
There are honest sellers, there are good genuine badges, there are bargains to be had occasionally - but watch it.
