S.P. usually stands for SERVICE POLICE...
Like the M.P. (military police) but for the RCAF or other services. I have an armband with S.P. / R.C.A.F. on it. Now you have to figure out what ANS means.! Air Naval Service?? |

Hi Bwetdude.
SP was usually for "Shore Patrol" , MP for "Military police", "FSP" for Field Security Police but this is a tipycal "Home front", black painted helmet. It's perhaps different in the Canadian Army. In that case SP would be for "Stretcher Party". I don't think it is for Air Naval Service ( I thought at the beginning that it may be the Auxiliary Naval Service , but this was put up after WW2!.) I'm pretty shure A.N.S is the name of a factory or perhaps A company - North Sector ( This existed in the city of Coventry where they had a lot of factories, and workers. A mistery but I feel A... N... & Sons would be the correct answer. |
