Default WW1 Battalion and Company patches

Hi all,

Just created an album of a number of WW1 battalion and company patches.

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...p?albumid=2930

Lots of research to be done.

Enjoy, cheers Dean.

Great album Dean. Shame there isn't a comprehensive record of those that existed but I suppose some of them were battalion peculiarities that might only have lasted one offensive. Or changed on the whim of a new CO.

I totally agree - great album!

I have just posted a reference in Dean's other thread

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...038#post360038

The set of 150 cigarette cards referred too do not have many battalion signs but it is a good reference

Nice one thanks Mike - I have the Durhams card and will post it to the album, they are a great reference set and will look to pick up more.

Of interest is to where they were worn as some cards refer to them being worn on the rear of the tunic and one can understand that in assaults and trench warfare etc, cheers Dean.

Default WW1 BATTALION AND COY PATCHES

Hi Dean

Great collection - keep up the good work. The 9 Black Watch patch is indeed a black thistle.

Regards

The IWM did do a comprehensive study of Gt War patches towards the end of hostilities. The results are on their website, but unfortunately not always accompanied by photos.

Additionally, if you are a member of the Military Heraldry Society you can purchase copies of Major John Waring's identification pamphlets. No2 covers the Great War British units.

Stephen.

Many thanks Stephen,

I shall join and pick up the pamphlet when I can. It will be great to read up on the patches. Always more to learn, cheers Dean.

Hello Stephen / Dean

Great minds think alike - see my post on Deans Durham thread for links to MHS. Quite a few forum members contribute articles and it covers numerous interests but perhaps mainly cloth.

Dean,

some very nice patches makes my collection pale into insignificance well done for acquiring them.

Military Mode publishing are supposed to be publishing a WW1 Battle Patches book this year based on the IWM archive. The book was part done last August when I visited Regimentals.

Thanks for the info David and encouragement Mark. If what you have as spares is anything to go by there would be nothing pale in your collection, cheers Dean.

Default CLOTH PATCH BOOK

Hi All

I read with interest the many posts for this topic.

I too have amassed lots of information on the subject of cloth battalion patches with a view to publish at some stage.

The subject is so vast that is too big a subject for one person and I would love to collaborate with a fellow enthusiast with the end product being a publishable work on the subject.

Regards

Talos
