Default 11th Light Horse Brigade

Hello Everyone,
This is a picture of my grandfather who was a member of the 11th LH Regt and then served with the Anzac Provost Corps.I am wanting to know if anyone has seen the badge above his stripes before, it looks like a horseshoe which would make sense as his rank at the time of the photograph was an ER/Far Sgt.This photo would have been taken around 1918-1919,so by this stage he was a member of the Provost Corps, also the ribbon bar on his chest, does it represent the standard WW1 medals.
Thanks Everyone.

That would make sense having that badge if he was a Farrier Sergeant.

Mick was that a common badge worn by someone with the title of shoeing smith or farrier,as I have never seen it mentioned in any of the research I have done.

I think it was worn by all farriers.

Have a look here:

Thanks Mick that was a great help,I have found it hard to get any detailed information on his movements once he joined the Provost Corps,I can only guess that he was still attached to the 11th LHR at the time as he didn't return to Australia until 1919 from the Middle East and what little information there is shows he was at places that they were at.

Have you read the 11th LHR unit history?

That might give you a better idea of his movements.

The 11th LHR war diary might also be useful.

hi
yes the trade badge for farrier is the horse shoe and as he is a Sgt there for it looks like his correct rank, farrier Sgt.
he looks to have the standard ww1 trio of medals represented by the ribbons on his chest.
I assume you have accessed his file on the National Archives site? that should give you more info on who he was attached to and when

Thanks BC for that info,at the moment I am researching all four of my grandfathers who served in WW1 so it is a bit of a task filling the gaps.
