Pre-Republic Egyptian Infantry
Here's a nice Egyptian officers cap badge dating from the time before the King was kicked out.
It's sand cast brass with a rather flimsy slider. 35mm high. For a picture of Nasser wearing this badge see Glubb's Legion by Godfrey Lias. Also an infantry officers collar badge. Nice struck blacked SD type brass, two lugs N&S. 35mm high Scroll reads al muscha ie The Infantry. Eddie |

Two nice badges, there, Eddie, though I would query whether the cap badge was an officer's version. Just to complement the thread, I am attaching scans of five more Egyptian badges of the pre-1952 era, these being an Air Force officer's badge in wire embroidery, 75mm in height; the Navy officer's at 70mm in width and three Army badges.
The Army badges are the Tank Corps - a nicely die-struck badge in w/metal,48mm high, with split-pin loops; a General's badge in bronze, at 66mm high and made in three pieces, nice die-striking with a smooth back and split-pin loops.; plus a badge which is similar to yours but seems to be of much better quality. This is die-struck, with a flat back, though the back is covered by the gren backing which seems to be felt-coverered leatherette. It has a brooch-pin fastening N-S. Unfortunately, I have no idea what O/ranks' cap badges were like, if, indeed, any were worn. The collar badges were certainly nicely made (the ones I have seen, anyway.) Brian |

Very nice indeed. I love the lotus flowers on the air force badge - very appropriate some might say!
I'm not sure that other ranks wore many badges - all the pictures I've seen show them in pretty non-descript uniforms. You may well be right about my capbadge. I'd not argue with you except on the basis of OR's being badgeless. Eddie |

Though not strictly "Arab", I'm sure the wearer of this would have had dealings with them? Any one have an idea why the lugs would have been removed and crudely replaced with a steel tang? David J.

It's Military Police. The scroll reads Bolice there being no P sound in Arabic.
But surely it should be a monkey? |

Egyptian badges
Here are a few more badges from Egypt from their Signals. The dates have been verified by the Egyptian Army for me. Also a few Saudi Signal badges to show the closeness of the Arab military from a badge perspective.
Egypt with crown until 1952 Crescent and 3 stars 1952 to 1958 1958 to 1961 UAR period. Have an illustration of same badge but the UAR eagle. Doubt if this was ever made. 1961 till? is the second line. EW is the lower badge. Not sure if worn as caps or collars. Presume collars Rgds CLIFF Quote:
