Unknown Canadian 135 MLI Collar Badge

Any help appreciated with identification of this one 135 MLI Collar Badge. Is it CEF or Militia ????

If not CEF will be offered for sale...

Paul,

It isn't Non-Permanent Active Militia, the number of infantry units did not go that high.

Good day Paul,

This collar is for the Middlesex Light Infantry between the wars, 1920 to 1936.

Was raised as the 26th Middlesex Bn. of Inf. 1866. "Light" added to title 1900.

Raised the 135th C.E.F. Bn. during WW I (hence '135' on the collar badge, but not the hat badge). In post war, 1920 re-org of the Militia, regiment was designated the Middlesex Light Infantry.

During the 1936 re-org of the Militia, the regiment was amalgamated with the Huron Regiment as the Middlesex and Huron Regiment.

Great information, Ian.

Just wanted to add that the Regiment was located in Strathroy, Ontario, a small town just outside of London (Ontario). With the amalgamation in 1936, the new Regiment perpetuated both the 135th and 161st Battalions, CEF.

Just on the off chance that others on this forum are not document collectors, I want to share what I happened to find while reading my copy of the 1923 General Orders for the Canadian Militia.

GO 1923-91
Dated 15th June 1923
Dress Regulations for the Canadian Militia, 1907 - Amendments
Dress Regulations and Orders for the Canadian Militia, 1907, are amended as follows:-
Pages 54 and 55. Cancel "26th Middlesex Light Infantry" and detail of collar badges and insert:
"The Middlesex Light Infantry"
Badges as described hereunder are authorized:-
CAP BADGE
In Bronze: A maple leaf with an oval in the centre, having the letters "M.L.I." on the upper portion and a bugle suspended by a cord on the lower portion.
Across the lower part of the leaf is a waving scroll bearing the motto "Defence not Defiance".
COLLAR BADGE
In bronze. As for cap badge, but with the numerals "135" added to the oval above the letters "M.L.I."
