Unknown Artillery Badge
Found an old plaque- shield - with Canadian WWI badges.
One with cannons and number 100 doesn't look Canadian to me... not able to figure it out.. Also - all the badges are from WWI period. The one badge belongs to Intelligence Corps., which was created during WW2?.. Could it already existed during WW1..? Please if you know something - could you share your knowledge. |

I’ve seen these described as US Coastal Artillery.

Int Hat Badge
Hat badge in the first picture of the O.P is for the Corps of Guides, which served as a unit of the Non-Permanent Active Militia in Canada from 1903 to 1929. They were a mounted unit tasked with scouting topography for commanders if war occured in Canada. During WWI, volunteers served with Calvary units in the C.E.F. The war saw the decline of mounted troops and the unit was converted to cyclist companies after the war. The unit was disbanded in 1929 and the members were absorbed into the non-permanent Canadian Corps of Signals.
The Canadian Intelligence Corps was not established until 1942. One can only assume that the decision was made at that time to utilize the design of the Guides hat badge with modifications for the new Int Corps, issued in 1944. Upon Unification of the Army, RCN and RCAF, the Corps was disbanded to be replace by the Security Branch of the new CAF. The Branch was split in 1982 to make the Intelligence Branch, with the Security Branch handling all Military Police functions. Hope this helps. For 'Private knowledge' and 'General information'.
