Default Cut down helmet plates

Can anyone tell me who wore each of these WM helmet plates? In the book 'A Lion in the Colony", (on sale for $1 from the Hobart Anglesea Barracks Museum) there is an illustration of a member of the Tasmanian Engineers wearing a cut down artillery helmet plate, but the large crown variety remains a mystery to me. Were either or both worn in UK?
Thanks

Hello,

They should not be cut down Helmet Plates but manufactured that way if the are from the UK.

Worn by Military Provost Staff Corps and I believe some other minor Departments in Gilt but donr know why its in WM.

The RA, RE and RAMC wore the large Royal Arms badge but with different scrolls below and in the case of the RA a gun also.

regards

One of the police forces in England & Wales used an identical helmet plate in white metal.

Well that would be a good explanation I think.
Thanks Dave

So apparently the large crown was just a manufacturer's variation?
