I’ve seen similar badges with ‘HGS’ attributed to Hutcheson’s Grammar School Cadet Corps, Glasgow.
So perhaps this is another incarnation and HSG = Hutcheson’s School Glasgow. I’m sure Alan will know. |

Do you have a photo of the back?
The Cameronians did have cadet units with their initials in the mullet's wreath. Kelvinside Academy was one. If you could find a cadet unit in the Army List with those initials that were affiliated to the regiment then you have a match. Hutchensons is a contender as stated. The school CC bought their own uniforms and I imagine adapted the Cameronian's badge themselves. How widely worn it was is not known Alan Last edited by Alan O; 13-04-24 at 03:49 PM. |

Quite possible. Glasgow High School OTC wore the Cameronians badge in the 1930s but this may have been an early variation that they subsequently dropped.
They did however have a round brass badge that they wore before they dropped it for the Cameronians mullet. They continued to wear the round badge on their sporrans. |
