Default Belgium army in exile signallers arm patch

A Belgium army in exile signallers proficiency arm badge. Am I correct to assume the ST refers to Flemish and French bilingual signaal/transmissions?

It was new to me too when I spotted in on ebay, the only example online I could find was on this website.

My first thought was Signals/Telegraphy which would definitely fit in with the crossed flags but was it an "unofficial" adornment/addition ?

I found various initial/monogram badges (mainly secretarial and no S.T.) and wonder if perhaps one was 'adopted' by the signallers as the initials fitted their trade ?

The TS badge is a Belgium cap badge for Treasurer officer and Secretary in the Army Service Corps. It is not related to Signals as far as I can see.

I suspect your signals badge may have been put together based on the similar badge on the website in the 3rd post (I also suspect that badge was also 'put together')

I have attached an image showing the badge from an old Belgium badge website (not sure whether the site is still available) as well as from a published booklet on Belgium Insignia of the period 1919 - 1940.

Regards
Steven

Thumbs up

Thanks Steven , when I found illustrations of other "secretary" badges I wondered if there was a 'S.T.' one .

Thank you very much for your information guys.

I understand that it looks like a put together, however the size is quite different from the ones in the Belgium badges book. This requires more homework I think before it goes in the "bad ones" box.

Luc , another one has turned up at the "Show of Shows" in Louisville Kentucky.

Seems strange that one would end up in America !

Perhaps there is more to these badges that needs to be discovered.

Signal Flag Cloth Badge with Metal 'ST".

Thanks Mike for mentioning my find to Luc and for also directing me to this post.

As I mentioned in my other post about this badge, I found this amongst a number of other foreign badges and what caught my eye was the metal 'ST' and also the price -$5!

I took a chance on the badge and now there seems to be two examples of these badges. I would like to see a comparison of the two to see if they're identical?

Paul

By the way, it was great catching up with some other forum members at the Show and a special mention to Jack Kelly for passing on some treasure!

Here are the photos of the three examples :

1. From website Luc posted.

2. Luc's example from post #1

3. Your one.

NOTE : There appear to have been two different examples of the "Treasurer officer and Secretary" badge illustrated.

Well Done Mike.

Certainly looks like two different examples of the ST badge.

Luc and my badge look identical so begs the question what's the chances of two of the badges appearing in different parts of the world?

Way out of my depth so I'll follow this thread and see what others collectors think.

Thanks again for taking the time to do the comparison.

Paul
