9th AGRA Formation Sign?
Hello,
I’m wondering whether anyone has a definitive answer as to whether 9th AGRA had their own formation insignia. A family member was largely in 9th AGRA during SWW - with a stint with 5th AGRA during the Normandy campaign (I have a printed badge for them) - and so far I’ve not been able to track down a formation sign / badge.

As far as I am aware 9 AGRA did not have its own formation badge, due to the nature of its activities. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9th_Ar...oyal_Artillery

Are you sure it was 5th. AGRA that you have the printed patch for? It’s my belief they were not formed until 1950. At the moment, I cannot find a reference to 9th. AGRA. Can you post a picture or scan of the printed patch you have?

World War 2, 5 AGRA from January 1943 to December 1945, again no specific AGRA badge. Possibly wore the 8 Army and 30 Corps Formation badge.

Thanks for the replies both. I may be laboring under a misunderstanding with the 5 AGRA patch then. I don’t have it to hand but it is a red wheel with a red arrow diagonally behind it on a blue background. I’ve seen this described as 5 AGRA by several online sources.

Yes, you Do have a 5 AGRA insignia but as I mentioned in post #3, it’s the wrong time period for what you are looking for, read again 54Bty’s post. Check also your relative’s papers. There was for instance a 5th Anti-Aircraft Division during WWII. Best regards, D.J.

Ah, good to know. So the patch is post-war then. It wasn’t his - I purchased it to represent his service but obviously wasn’t aware that it was anachronistic for his time in.
He was in 10th Med. Regt., which landed in Normandy with 9 AGRA, transferred to 5 AGRA during late July into August 1944, then returned to 9 AGRA for the rest of the war. Thanks again!
