Hi Phill,
Both are post WWII, embroidered with synthetic threads.

Did you do a burn test Phill? That would show synthetic thread in a more reliable way in my opinion.

RAF personnel did not use these during the war as far as I'm aware.

Hi Luc

Will do on the Army bulb later.

Will let you know the outcome.

I beleive the RAF is definitely post war.

The Army one I beleive is WWII based on the risers and the twist of the silk thread.

cheers mate

Phill,

Here is my small selection acquired from dealers in the 1970s and 1980s. I cannot be sure when they were actually made or worn. In my 32 years service (1969-2001) I can recall seeing very few examples and they were worn on Service Dress by officers who had completed ‘balloon jumps’ while members of the Edward Bear club at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Thanks Tim

I think at least these are from the 40's-50's period made, so probably in the corret time frame compared to those other wings I posted.

I guess as you pointed out regarding the wings they could be mix of legit priod with made for collector market.

It does ask the question if not many seen why did they continue the bulb for such a long time?

cheers mate

Phill
