Unusual if it is a name, is that the correct spelling? Do you have a pic?

Hello Didier,

Sysum looks to be a British name but seems very uncommon.

Find a list of all the enlisted soldiers in a division seems to me impossible.
In my opinion it doesn't exist a such list. Even by unit it looks an Himalayas task... I have been looking for years a list of the 1st British Airborne Div prisonners of war after the fail of Market Garden in September 44 and until now I haven't find any! Regards. J-F (from Normandy!)

Hi Didier
Hard to trace names but as Tinto says, it's quite an unusual one which might make it easier.
I do not think that there are any accurate lists, some names can be found at:

http://www.pegasusarchive.org/normandy/frames.htm

and also here:

http://www.paradata.org.uk/units/9th...hute-battalion

Another source could be the many regimental histories that have been written, I think there is a fairly new book on 9Para at Merville. It would be nice to think that this could be a 9Para helmet but so many men from other units were misdroped all over the Ranville area I guess it could be any of the 6Airborne units
Hope you have some luck
Lee

Default D-Day helmet question

Hi Didier

The helmet probably belonged to 1440475 L/Cpl A Sysum who was a member of B company 8 Para and was seriously wounded on 19/8/44 in Normandy.

I have a note that the injury was a gunshot wound to the leg.

Hope this solves who the helmet belonged to.

Hello there,

Well done! By luck would you have any details about Mr John Henry Batchelor? I know he was taken prisonner at Arnhem with 1st AB Division and I have some clues as he was enlisted in one of the Airlanding brigade battalions, but which?, unfortunatly I don't know...
All the best.
J-F
