Kings own royal regiment list of Leros survivors
Hi all
Does anyone have access to a list of 1st Bn Kings own royal regiment survivors who managed to escape the german invasion of the island (believe about 50 made it). I want to see if Henry Illingsworth made it (and if he ended up in an airborne unit in Norway in May 1945). Happy new year to you all Jon |

Hi Jon,
There is only a casualty list for Officers and some evacuees being the wounded on the Kings Own Museum site, there are some extracts of the war diary but I did not notice your man named. It may be worthwhile dropping an enquiry to one of the curators who may have more access. The survivors were placed with the 8th Bn which then reconstituted the 1st. Paul |

"Royal Suffolks"
It seems that even service personnel referred to the "Royal Suffolks", on official correspondence, a title that was never bestowed on them, always "The Suffolk Regiment".
