Thanks very much for your kind welcome. Reading some of the posts I must say, as a new collector, I'm quite worried about the number of fake badges referred to. Is there any definitive publication to give help?

Hi Peter and welcome to the Forum! You have an interesting collecting field, there.
WW1 rifle regiments can be a bit tricky, with many faked to death. I'm afraid there is no definitive publication to recognizing fakes. The books " British Army Cap Badges Of The First World War" by Doyle, and "Military Badge Collecting" by Gaylor are good reference guides and include some tips on weeding out fakes, but my advice is that is you are uncertain of a badge, post a pic on here, or a link if on eBay, or just ask questions! There are plenty of very helpful and knowledgeable members here who can help! Cheers Colin

Peter,
Welcome, the best advice is to get a copy of Gaylor, you should be able to pick one up for £10 on eBay, the Doyle books are good too, but a great deal of the badges illustrated within are not the best examples! I will attempt to answer the questions in your email in the morning! Happy New Year Andy |
