I got one of these a couple of years ago and I think I posted a scan in the Forum which someone might be able to find. It is a different striking to BC's and I also included a couple of cloth titles.
The NGVR was a remarkable body of men who put up an incredible effort against the Japanese invasion near Rabaul and the north coast (a long way from the Kokoda Trail), for which they received a US Presidential Unit Citation. Their story is very well documented.

Thanks Keith for posting the link. The titles are rare because very few men in the unit and the jungle also swallowed a lot, including their owners. Their original uniforms were apparently made by Chinese tailors in Rabaul but no info about where the metal titles were made. The Australian government provided very little in the way of arms or equipment.
I have never visited the PNGVR museum in Brisbane which mainly features the post-war regiment with the QC badge. I contacted them but did not receive any reply to my question whether they had any WW2 titles on uniforms. They did sell me a copy of the book you mentioned.

The "During WWII" section has a couple of good photos of cloth titles being worn.

Some of the photos in the pre WWII section (but taken in 1940) show them wearing cap badges (link 1) and in the Post WWII section there are photos of two memorial plaques (link 2) , to NGVR 1939-1945 War , in Brisbane both showing cap badges.

Link 1

Link 2

Can't find any photos of badges being worn 'in action' but that may have been an "operational" decision ?

Several of the original group photos in Link 1 clearly show the rising sun badge being worn, and it is also shown on the memorial plaques in Link 2
I put a set of rising suns on my NGVR board together with the two patterns of colour patch. I don't have a US PUC so just put a picture of one from the book.

Hi Guys

My father was a Sgt in signals in WW2 and served with the New Guinea Air Warning Wireless Co who at some time operated with the NGVR, he often referred to them when talking about his time in New Guinea.

Regards

Phil.

I'm guessing these cloth versions on eBay are repros but in case they are of use as 'place savers'.

US Presidential Unit Citation Awards 3 x Badges
