R.N.D. Drake
I believe this to be a very bad copy, I welcome any comments to confirm before it goes in the pot.

I’m in no doubt this type is a genuine makers variation. Not Gaunt made.

Really Luke ! I was looking at the area around the masts...there seems to be an added layer...whereas all the other versions I look at on the forum are crisp and clean in detail.

Really . If you are unhappy with it please do send it to me!
Did you see my PM in the HLI thread asking for a close up pic of the cap badge? I’d be much obliged if you could. |

There is a thread in the navy section discussing non-Gaunt made RND badges. If you search you should be able to find it. Can't remember if Drake gets a mention.

They have been sold as genuine and go for up to £100 on the more expensive dealer's sites.

Might be worth having a look at this thread: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ad.php?t=66516

Thanks for the comment. I have looked at the above thread, which is a brilliant debate among some of the more experienced collectors. However, on looking at the Drake badge there, although it has many of the similar features, I feel my badge is different around the mast area of the rear flag. It looks like my badge has an extra layer of metal above the aft yardarm.

I wouldn't want this variation type, the quality is poor. Id go for the Gaunt tablet one.
