Default Auxillery Units

Interestingly these two are being offered at the same time - the first from an auction house I'm pretty sure is a fake https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/a...3-ab5a0122838c

whilst this one on e bay looks like the real thing https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rare-WW2-...53.m1431.l2649

I agree. First not wartime and fake, second original.

There have been a few of these on Ebay fetching very good money over the past few weeks ..I believe the dodgy ones are altered versions of the badge sold as a commemorative piece by Coleshill House, which they kindly highlighted on the forum last summer. One was sold by a seller who is selling what I believe to be dodgy ARP badges as well, which I questioned a few weeks back..stippled back, pin fitting, awful green ageing, poor enamelling

One way to tell an original from a modern copy is take a look at the crown.

on the copy the two (jewels) either side of the centre are perfectly matched, and perfectly made.
On an original the left one is always not as good as the right one, a sign of poorly made mould/die.

we are going to see this a lot I am afraid, the museum sold some of them of
cheaply , and now we are seeing them being cut down and sold as the real thing.

all of the fake ones I have seen have had a single clutch pin fitting ( of course removed), the fake one in this thread has had two fixings removed, so I would guess that a different type of fixing has been used on some museum sold types. I would like to confirm this , if anyone has one.

all the best Andrew.

Hi Andrew,
I think the two are the c-clasp and the hinge, removal of both leaves two scars. More worryingly are the ARP that are in the same sale and being sold on Ebay

That seems to have certainly reflected in the price of the second badge, a little change from five hundred quid, enough for a few celebratory drinks for the buyer perhaps.
