I would take the bulk of that wiki page with a bucket full of salt, particularly the supposed operational history but it does give a vague idea of the unit's role.

tonyb..........thanks for your help....I'm pleased to sat that I now have a cap badge received today......help from old army friend who served in unit from it's beginning............

Thought you might find this of interest, original beret, badge and belt belonging to a friend who was one of the founder members of the SRR..
