Merchant navy badge
HELP... I am having a hard time finding the colours for the Canada merchant navy badge. I know that the background is red, but I have no idea what colour the letters MN and CANADA are supposed to be.

Probably will not answer yr question concerning colours but here is some info on the Mercantile Marine insignia: British Merchant Navy lapel badge (left) was issued to all merchant seamen in World War II. The badge issued to members of the Canadian Merchant Navy was similar, but had the word "CANADA" added at the top. Ships' officers in the Merchant Navy wore uniforms, but the other members of the crew (stokers, deckhands, etc.) did not have an official uniform. If they were employed by a large shipping company, however, they may have been issued with a company uniform. Ashore, the men would wear this badge to identify them as merchant seamen. taken from a Merchant Navy website, I think the lettering colour might be silver as I am sure I have seen these on ebay in the past. Thank you much for this. Once I have painted the badge I will post a pic for all to see.
The badges I make are replica badges, but are accurate. |
