Queens own Yorkshire dragoons
This badge has had a white/silver Finish to the rose.
Their is a description of this in KK volume 2 as follows Rose in WM and Imperial crown in GM Badge is GM with this finish applied, I thought it should be WM attached to GM crown. Badge. Has correct slider and is maker marked FN B,HAM. I am thinking attaching rose to crown would make for a weak badge so applying a finish would make sense. So question is, is this correct or has someone painted it. Regards Chris IMG_0678.jpg IMG_0679.jpg IMG_0680.jpg IMG_0681.jpg |

Hi Chris
The YD bi metal badge is a gilding metal crown brazed to a white rose, it's a strong badge, I've one in my collection, and have seen others. They were worn by S/NCO's. Yours is an original gilding metal badge, the reason for the rose being painted is either a S/NCO of the YD's couldn't get hold of a bi metal badge, so fashioned it himself, but you'd need provenance for that theory, or someone has done it to sell at a higher price, saying it is a S/NCO's badge. Hope this helps. Chris |

Thanks DG
Yes that is helpful. I am leaning towards removing the paint and moving it on as the standard GM badge. Regards Chris |

I've seen a couple of Ayrshire Yeomanry gilding metal badges , small of type, with the head and neck done in the same way as the rose on the YD badge.
Same reasons probably. Needs provenance to even considerate I'd say. Cheers Chris |

Yes, agree with that.
So I think I will clean this badge up. I was going to use white vinegar and a stiff brush? Never removed paint from a badge before. Any suggestions. Chris |
