If those brave lads knew how much their helmets were going to be worth one day some of them might not have jumped...

Was this worn by BG Gavin, 82nd AB Div? Signed by Ike? "Probably used at Normandy". Why not Southern France, Holland, or across the Rhine? I'm surprised it wasn't worn by one of the Band Of Brothers, E Company, 506th Parachute Infantry. Could have been. Could have been worn by a replacement who joined in April, 1945, too. Of course, it wouldn't be worth big bucks then. I'll pass.

It looks the part. They have even admitted to changing the plume. Generally, only the front plates survive on these helmets. Its a cracker - good job it isn't a 6ID one, otherwise I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight..... dave |

Well said Don. That is a very optimistic value on an un-provenanced helmet. Just because it looks like a chicken doesn't mean it is a chicken.
(I don't think un-provenanced is a word...but..) |

i think you are being a little synical, the guy must beleive what he is saying as he offers a full guarantee. Maybe it would be worthwhile asking him exactly what the guarantee covers? Positive exageration? Definatley overpriced or a full money back refund? Cheers, Dave

Put the word paratrooper.. commando... airborne... sas into the equation and you had better know your field or you could get clobbered... this helmet appears to have arc welded D bales and that alone disqualifies it from being authentic in my opinion... there are other issues with this helmet that are suspect... I hope no one on the forum is tempted...

a full guarantee
Hi Dave,
A little cynical? Is that like being a little bit pregnant? What is the difference between a "full" guarantee and a guarantee? Sounds good but, unless it comes with the paper work from French customs in Normandy, everybody went through customs , what's it worth? Satisfaction can be guaranteed, Authenticity in this case is a little harder. If you read carefully he doesn't say that this helmet was in Normandy, only that it "probably was one of the helmets used at Normandy." Since this was the only type of helmet used by the American army at that time he "probably" is correct. "Probably" is what I would call a weasel word. Nothing is being said that isn't factual, just misleading. If you look carefully at the pictures you see 2 chin straps. One is wrapped around the back of the helmet and attached. I do not claim to be an expert on American helmets used by airborne units, but, what is the purpose of this strap? Sets off alarms in my mind. I don't think any paratrooper worth his wings would keep anything "straight legged" on his equipment. Pass. Don
