hi fez and welcome to the forum.

here is a sketch of the dems gunlayer patch dems seaman gunner patch

as for specific insignia for other DEMS men...well its a good question... I know they were not just RN men but Merchant Marine and Army. a good number of territorial royal artillery chaps manned the guns on merchant ships, so a bit of a mixed bag of ocean going worriors........

Anyway I think I will go off and create a permanent page on RN ratings badges.

It appears that any gunnery rate could serve in the DEM's position the letters DEMS is what declares them a gunner on a merchant ship,This fellow below was a Quarters rate gun layer in the RN or RCN etc.

hi mallyhart, .....I stand corrected...... the patch shown is the dems seaman gunners - it's crossed guns for the dems gunlayers. I have corrected it above.

Apparently these are the only Royal Navy badges worn by the Army ......unless someone knows different???

thanks.

I picked up on this thread a while back & knew I had a photo of a Canadian sailor (I think he is likely an RCNVR rating) wearing the Q DEMS rate badge, & now I have found it would like to share it in this thread.

Unfortunately the rate badge is not all that sharp but think it will show up OK,

The photo taken on their wedding day....

I have several DEMS rate badges but in frame & unable to photo clearly.
